HealthMash application is available on Android too
Welcome to the iPhone and Android mobile version of HealthMash Health Search engine. This application helps you to search health related information (may it be text, or visual) from trusted sources. This might come handy whenever coming across an unfamiliar medical term, collecting information for scientific studies or health concerns. This is further aided by the related terms supplied to the searched queries.
The HealthMash Search Engine mobile application is easy to use, clearly designed. The opening screen starts with a query field, where you can add your term you want to be searched.
When one added, you are directed to the main result page with the web results. This is marked with the small book icon on the first tab. Below, you find each individual search results listed with a title and snippet from the text. Their links are indicated under each item, too. You can scroll down the page for further hits. Clicking on the items will open the content of the original result page. You can use the 'Back' button on the top to return to the results.
The second tab with the camera is the result list for images. Images for your search appear as an index mosaic. Clicking on the images will open your web-browser client and directs you to the web page containing the picture. You have to reopen/return to HealthMash Health Search Engine to see further search results.
The tab with the small television set contains videos. Similarly as with images, index images for your video search results are arranged in a mosaic structure. Clicking on one of these index images will open your web-browsers client with the page that contains the actual video. You have to reopen/return to HealthMash Health Search Engine to see further search results.
The „Explore” tab supports further options to refine your search. These are grouped in boxes, such as: 'Related Concepts', 'Health Concerns', 'Tests and Treatments', 'Drugs and Substances' and 'Alternative Medicine'. 'Related Concepts' support synonyms, abbreviations, broader and narrower terms, etc. for your search. Clicking on one of the related terms will support a brief definition to the item along with other related terms. Clicking 'Back' on the top will redirect you the previous screen. There is a 'Show More' option for each box to extend the content for your boxes.
The last tab, 'Contents' features further insight your search with self-explanatory options as 'Alternative Names', 'Causes', 'Complications', 'Coping and support', 'Definition', 'Diagnosis', 'Exams and Tests', 'Lifestyle and home remedies', 'Medical advice', 'Outlook (Prognosis)', 'Possible Complications', 'Preparing for your appointment', 'Prevention', 'Recovery', 'References', 'Recovery', 'References', 'Risk factors', 'Support Groups', 'Symptoms', 'Tests and diagnosis', 'Treatments' and 'Treatments and drugs'. Use the 'Back' button on the top to return to the previous screen.
Search results for health-related queries much more pertinent than results through Google!
I certainly remain impressed how HealthMash blends functionality elements and (in particular) coverage of some other quality resources into one interface with tabs for websites, articles, trusted sites, videos, news, twitter etc. That creates as far as I can see very relevant and comprehensive results for some searches I tried.so far. Your ranking algorithm seems to work very well indeed.
When I'm trying to find information about a medical condition or procedure, I don't want to get a mess of links and false descriptions. Also when I use medical search engines that search only in medical databases, I don't want to be limited to websites, but I'm also interested in other resources such as quality Twitter users, videos or books focusing on the search term. That's why HealthMash saves me plenty of time and clicks.
I tried to use both HealthMash and Google to search for cardiovascular risk factor questionnaire. I had 2.700.000 million results in Google, however, I have got only 2(!) relevant results on the first page. On HealthMash I got only 146 results, however I had 7(!) relevant results on the first page. When I say relevant, I mean, that I could not find complete downloadable cardiovascular risk factor questionnaires, but I could make my own pretty easily based on the relevant pages.
